Balik Kampung Journeys Are Nearly Fully Booked for Hari Raya Aidilfitri Travel

As of 9 am today, approximately 86 per cent of Electric Train Service (ETS) tickets offered for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel period have been sold, with tickets for balik kampung journeys being almost entirely gone. Out of 257,000 tickets made available, 217,000 have been purchased, leaving around 35,000 tickets still on offer. The surge in demand has led Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to increase daily ETS trips significantly.
High Demand for Outbound Capital Routes

Tickets for journeys departing from Kuala Lumpur are the most sought after, particularly for popular destinations such as Ipoh and Padang Besar. This intense demand has resulted in the complete sell-out of tickets for the northern sector. While limited seats remain for southern routes, the overall availability for balik kampung travel is scarce.
Limited Availability for Return Trips to Kuala Lumpur

In contrast to the outbound journeys, tickets for travel into Kuala Lumpur still show some availability. This indicates a higher concentration of bookings for those travelling away from the capital for the festivities. However, KTMB advises the public to book return tickets in advance, as demand is anticipated to rise sharply as the holiday concludes and people prepare to return to work.
Increased ETS Services to Meet Demand

To accommodate the elevated travel needs during the Hari Raya period, KTMB has expanded its ETS services. The usual 46 daily trips have been augmented to a maximum of 70 trips per day. Currently, 62 of these enhanced daily services are open for booking, with the remaining eight slots to be released based on prevailing demand or if existing bookings are fully realised. This increase in capacity could potentially raise the total ticket availability to 285,000 if all 70 daily trips are activated.
