However, the report highlights that even for these committed companies, this pledge has not universally resulted in higher earnings for the workers involved in manufacturing their products.

There is widespread inconsistency and confusion among garment firms regarding the precise definition and calculation of a living wage. Many companies, including Amazon and Decathlon, state that their suppliers comply with local minimum wage laws but do not extend this to commitments for living wages. This approach often falls short, as minimum wages are frequently insufficient to meet basic living costs.
Challenges in Implementation and Agreement

Even companies with explicit living wage goals have encountered significant hurdles. H&M's 2013 initiative to ensure a living wage for approximately 850,000 workers by 2018 did not achieve its target. This was largely due to a lack of agreement on a national living wage figure among trade unions and manufacturers in the supplier countries, leading H&M to state they did not wish to create an "isolated bubble of fairness." Other companies, like Puma, believe that wage negotiations should occur at the local level, involving workers, management, and government, rather than being dictated by global corporations.
