Over 140 Reports Received and Investigations Underway

Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf stated that police have received 141 reports concerning the travel agency by February 7. The total financial losses reported by victims amount to RM3,015,412. These cases are being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Collaboration with Tourism Ministry

While police are conducting their investigations, a portion of the reports has also been referred to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac). This is because the travel agency is registered and licensed by Motac for umrah-related activities from 2023 until March 2027. Motac is the relevant enforcement agency responsible for taking action under the Tourism Industry Act 1992 in such matters.
Agency Owners Arrested in January

The owners of the travel agency were arrested on January 15 in connection with the alleged scam. An investigation paper was opened by the police on the same day under Section 420 of the Penal Code. This action followed reports that the company had failed to arrange flights for umrah pilgrims who had already paid for their packages.
Motac Also Investigating Company's Operations

Concurrently, Motac has also launched its own investigation into the company's failure to fulfil its obligations to umrah pilgrims. The ministry has instructed the company to honour all existing bookings and ensure that affected pilgrims are provided with flights according to their agreed schedules. This dual investigation by both police and Motac underscores the seriousness of the situation.
