Quarrying Activities Have Severely Impacted the Waterfall Area

Quarrying operations, conducted by a contractor appointed by the state-owned MB Inc since July of the previous year, have almost completely destroyed the Tanjung Teluk Sera waterfall area. This nearly one-hectare site, featuring a 300-metre high waterfall, is situated within a permanent forest reserve and was previously accessible to the public. The waterfall, which is believed to have once comprised seven tiers with a pool at each level, has been dramatically altered by these activities.
Calls for Gazetting the Forest Reserve as a State Park Forest

In response to the degradation, Kuasa, in conjunction with Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) and other non-governmental organisations, has formally requested state authorities to gazette the entire Segari Melintang Forest Reserve as a State Park Forest. This measure is intended to ensure the long-term preservation of these vital forest ecosystems. A local resident, Ishak Mohamad, recalled the waterfall's beauty in 1978 and expressed concern for the environmental consequences of development, despite acknowledging the need for progress.
Authorities Investigating Compliance with Licensing Conditions

The Perak state authorities have acknowledged the situation, with the state Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin stating that the state forestry department and the Department of Environment have been directed to submit a comprehensive report. He indicated that stern action would be taken against any parties found to be in violation of their licensing conditions, and that the issue would be resolved promptly.
