Suspected Smuggling Operations

The businessman, aged 41, had reportedly been engaged in purchasing gold bars in Malaysia and subsequently taking them to India for the past five months. According to Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad, the man conducted at least five to six such transactions monthly. Investigators are seeking to ascertain the legality of these operations, with the victim's friend and his girlfriend also being detained to assist with the ongoing probe.
Robbery Circumstances and Execution

The alleged robbery occurred as the businessman was en route to the airport with four friends. These friends were reportedly tasked with declaring the gold bars on his behalf in Mumbai, India. The incident took place approximately 50 metres from the service residence where the businessman stayed during his visits to Kuala Lumpur. A group of assailants, travelling in two vehicles and armed with parangs, intercepted the businessman's car, blocking it from both the front and rear before smashing its windscreen.
Swift and Coordinated Attack

The assailants reportedly opened the car boot and seized a bag containing the gold bars. The operation was described as well-planned and executed with considerable speed, with the perpetrators quickly returning to their vehicles and escaping the scene. Following the incident, the businessman and his companions alerted the police, leading to the dispatch of a CID team to the location. The gold bars in question were reportedly purchased by the businessman on Wednesday afternoon from a jeweller in Jalan Masjid India.
