Bangladesh has not officially approved a decision to limit the recruitment of its workers for Malaysia to only 25 agencies. This statement contradicts claims made by Malaysia's Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, regarding a joint agreement between Dhaka and Putrajaya.

The Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Alliance (Ikhlas) lodged a police report against Minister Saravanan, citing discrepancies in his statements. Ikhlas president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah highlighted a report quoting Bangladesh's Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad. Imran Ahmad stated that neither he nor the Prime Minister of Bangladesh had approved specific recruitment companies. He further clarified that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Bangladesh and Malaysia did not contain any provisions regarding a limit of 25 recruitment agencies.

Minister Saravanan had initially announced on June 16 that both governments had jointly agreed to restrict the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers to 25 agencies. He had also stated that it was the source country's prerogative to determine the number of approved agencies. However, the following day, reports emerged quoting Minister Imran Ahmad directly refuting these claims. The Bangladeshi minister indicated that the selection of these 25 agencies had not been made by the Bangladeshi government.

The issue has raised concerns regarding transparency and potential abuse of power, with Ikhlas calling for a police investigation. The organisation also pointed out that a limit on agencies could lead to increased costs for Malaysian employers hiring Bangladeshi workers. Furthermore, Ikhlas questioned the necessity of bringing in more workers when there is an existing surplus of undocumented Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.
