Chua said independent pollster Merdeka Centre carried out surveys in six seats: Tasik Biru, Batu Kitang, Mambong, Bukit Semuja, Simanggang and Senadin. He noted that DAP reportedly emerged more popular in five of those six seats, which he said DAP used to support its position in the negotiations.
Chua said PKR candidates were more popular in at least three seats
Chua conceded that, when looking at party popularity, DAP came out better overall. However, he said that in candidate comparisons, PKR candidates proved more popular than DAP’s secondary candidates in at least three seats, including Mambong, Senadin and Batu Kitang.

The surveys and overlapping claims were handled through negotiations that later ended with an agreement on a 13-seat distribution formula, with DAP taking eight seats and PKR taking five, including Batu Kitang. Chua rejected the idea of PKR pulling out candidates and instead said Pakatan Harapan should improve its decision-making mechanism after the disputes, while focusing on winning against BN.
