Past Prime Ministers Did Not Act on Tabung Haji RCI Requests

Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has stated that his requests for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji matters were not acted upon by former prime ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. It was only when Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob assumed the role of prime minister that the establishment of an RCI was agreed upon.
Appeals to Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin

Abdul Azeez indicated that he had previously appealed to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and later to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to establish an RCI concerning Tabung Haji. These appeals did not result in any action or attention from their respective administrations. He expressed a desire for the matters to be resolved, noting that nothing was done during those periods.
Agreement Under Ismail Sabri

The establishment of the RCI was eventually agreed to by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his tenure as prime minister. Abdul Azeez expressed his gratitude for this agreement, suggesting it allowed for the matters to be addressed. He contrasted this with previous instances where his requests for an RCI were seemingly overlooked.
RCI Report Completion and Release

Abdul Azeez also raised questions about the timing of the RCI report's release. He mentioned that the 204-page report was completed at the end of 2022 and had been presented at several Cabinet meetings. He questioned why it remained unreleased for three years and eight months, suggesting that only the prime minister would know the reasons for the delay. The report's release, he noted, occurred during the Negri Sembilan state election campaign period.
