Lawsuit Filed by Global Royalty Trading Sal

Global Royalty Trading Sal initiated a lawsuit on June 26, seeking US$14.79 million as compensation for the 44 pieces of jewellery. The firm previously described Rosmah as a regular patron to whom they would send jewellery consignments for her perusal. The items in question were acknowledged as received by Rosmah in February, and included diamond necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and a tiara.
Rosmah's Defence and Legal Arguments

In her statement of defence, Rosmah asserts that she was never the legal owner of the 44 pieces of jewellery. Her legal team argues that the lawsuit filed by Global Royalty Trading Sal is in breach of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. They further contend that the claim for payment is misconceived and lacks any legal basis, and will be applying to dismiss the lawsuit.
Seizure of Jewellery by 1MDB Investigators

The jewellery in question was among items seized by commercial crime investigators during raids on six locations linked to Datuk Seri Najib Razak as part of the 1MDB investigations. In total, investigators confiscated 12,000 pieces of jewellery, comprising a significant quantity of earrings, rings, bracelets, brooches, necklaces, and tiaras. The overall appraised value of all cash and items seized during these investigations was reported to be RM1.1 billion.
