The RM10,000 cheque from Shahrir, who is also the Johor Baru Umno division chief, was deposited into the Taman Kebun Teh Umno branch's Maybank Islamic account on December 10, 2013. Abu Bakar explained that he personally applied for the donation because Shahrir holds the position of division chief. This aligns with the understanding that division chiefs are a primary source of financial assistance for their respective branches when facing financial difficulties.

Subsequently, a cheque amounting to RM7,000 was issued on December 13, 2013, to Mohamad Danial Zainal Abidin, who served as the Taman Kebun Teh Umno Youth chief, to manage the tournament's expenses. Abu Bakar confirmed that he did not inquire about the origin of the RM10,000, stating he did not know if it comprised Shahrir's old age savings. However, he expressed no doubt regarding the cheque's source, given Shahrir's role as division chief.

Shahrir himself is facing charges related to failing to declare RM1 million received from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). The trial is ongoing, with testimonies from witnesses like Abu Bakar providing details about financial transactions involving Shahrir.
