Agreement for Sarawakian-Only Recruitment

The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development had explicitly requested that the recruitment exercise be limited to Sarawakians. Minister Sagah voiced his disappointment, stating that the SPP's decision to interview candidates from other parts of Malaysia deviates from the initial understanding and agreement. He expressed a preference for any recruitment of non-Sarawakians to occur at a later time, should there be insufficient local candidates, particularly for specialised subjects.
High Application Numbers and Eligibility Criteria

The special recruitment drive garnered substantial interest, with nearly 16,000 applications submitted by Sarawakians and an additional 2,000 from other regions of Malaysia. Following this, applicants were required to complete an online Teacher Candidate Eligibility Test (UKCG). Approximately 12,000 Sarawakian candidates successfully passed this initial screening.
Adjustments to Interview Selection

Initially, over 1,700 vacancies were announced, which later increased to a need for around 2,000 teachers. However, due to the large number of candidates who passed the UKCG, the SPP introduced a new condition requiring a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 and above to be considered for an interview. Despite this, around 13,000 candidates still met the UKCG criteria, necessitating further filtering, which resulted in an estimated 2,000 candidates being called for face-to-face interviews for the final 1,733 vacancies.
