Ahmad Zahid stated that the funds were provided based on a request from Datuk Latiff Mirasa, chairman of Yayasan Restu, which was undertaking the printing of al-Quran copies for endowment to various religious institutions and for distribution overseas. He further confirmed that these printed al-Quran copies bore the names of himself and his wife as endowers on behalf of Yayasan Akalbudi.

Ahmad Zahid's defence centres on the assertion that the RM360,000 in question was specifically allocated for the printing of the al-Quran. He testified that this arrangement was made at the request of Datuk Latiff Mirasa, the chairman of Yayasan Restu. According to Ahmad Zahid, Yayasan Restu had established a committee, which included TS Consultancy's Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, to raise funds for this project. He pointed out that the company's registered business activities, as per the Companies Commission of Malaysia, involved organising training, courses, and motivational programmes. This, he argued, indicated that the company's initial formation and registered purpose were not aligned with new voter registration.
Disagreement with Previous Witness Statements

Ahmad Zahid also addressed the testimony of Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, a former special officer to the deputy prime minister and ex-EC deputy chairman, who had previously stated that the RM360,000 was used for TS Consultancy's operating costs related to voter registration. Ahmad Zahid disagreed with this characterisation, suggesting that Wan Ahmad and Latiff Mirasa would have known each other due to their previous roles in public service, specifically mentioning Wan Ahmad's tenure as EC deputy chairman and Latiff's position in the National Civics Bureau. He implied that their collaboration on the al-Quran printing committee was plausible.
