Lim contends that Khalid erred in dismissing Sirul Azhar Umar's recent statements regarding the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder case as mere hearsay, asserting that Sirul's remarks were made in an exclusive interview with the news portal Malaysiakini.
Sirul Azhar Umar's Statements to Malaysiakini

Sirul Azhar Umar, a former police commando currently detained by Australian immigration authorities, reportedly gave an exclusive interview to Malaysiakini. In this interview, Sirul allegedly made revelations concerning the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, a case that has seen multiple legal proceedings. Lim Lip Eng, who had previously lodged a police report regarding Sirul's claims, emphasized that these statements, originating from a direct interview with a news outlet, should not be categorized as hearsay.
Police Stance on Reopening the Case

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had previously stated that the police would not reopen the Altantuya murder case based on Sirul's claims. Khalid cited a police report lodged by Lim Lip Eng, characterising it as being based on hearsay reported in the media. Lim suggested that Khalid should seek confirmation from Australian authorities, where Sirul Azhar Umar is in custody, regarding the authenticity of the interview with Malaysiakini. Concurrently, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that Malaysian police have formally requested Sirul's extradition from Australia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sirul and former chief Inspector Azilah Hadri were convicted of Altantuya's murder in 2006, subsequently acquitted in 2013, and then convicted again by the Federal Court in 2015.
