After finding the area quiet, they returned to the train and continued their plans for further stops, including Jambatan Kota for lunch and then Bukit Tinggi to explore places such as Aeon Mall and Lotus’s. A 62-year-old visitor, Chan from Ampang, said it was her first ride on the new line and that she usually drives, but she took the train for a “cuti-cuti Klang” day trip after parking near Bandar Utama station.
Drivers are slowing down and switching to walking near stations
Shashi Dharan, 69, and his son Anand, 37, said they typically drive into Klang, but the free LRT3 rides gave them an excuse to slow down and explore on foot instead. Around Jambatan Kota station, wide covered pedestrian walkways, multiple zebra crossings, and clear directional signs were described as making it easier for visitors to move around nearby areas. Chan also highlighted that the pedestrian walkway was easier to use than Kuala Lumpur’s narrower walkways, saying it was “good enough” as long as it was walkable.
Stations are enabling clustered sightseeing after getting off
Visitors are making use of direct station links to nearby landmarks, including Little India, Pasar Jawa, and the historic Kota Bridge, so they can group multiple stops within walking distance. At Pasar Jawa, the market remained lively through lunchtime as visitors stopped for snacks like cendol and rojak, alongside office workers and Prasarana feeder bus drivers at food stalls. A grocery shop owner near Pasar Jawa said the increase in visitors had not yet led to larger purchases, but sales of cold drinks had picked up due to hot weather, with the shopkeeper noting that even RM3 more than before still counts as profit. Overall, the free fare period is being experienced as a reason to treat Klang as an unexpected day trip rather than just a place people drive into.
