She proceeded to invest this initial amount, with the promise of a RM14,000 profit.
Deception Through Payment Demands

To facilitate the withdrawal of the promised RM14,000 profit, the scammer instructed the lecturer to make a series of payments. These payments were to be transferred to specific bank accounts provided by the suspect. This tactic is a common feature in investment scams, where initial small investments are used to build trust before escalating demands for further funds under various pretexts.
Extensive Financial Losses and Realisation of Fraud

Between August 20 and September 10, the lecturer made numerous transfers to 18 different bank accounts. These funds were drawn from her Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings. It was only when she did not receive any of the promised profit payments that she realised she had been defrauded. She subsequently filed a police report on September 16, leading to an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating.
