The immediate trigger came on March 15, 2023
On March 15, 2023, Ng woke up to Ang slamming the door, and the two exchanged vulgarities. After that, Ng decided he could no longer tolerate Ang and prepared boiling cooking oil mixed with chopped chillis, closing the windows to reduce noise before approaching Ang while he slept.
The attack began at about 2:10am on March 16
At about 2:10am on March 16, Ng poured boiling oil on Ang’s face, causing him to wake and stand on his bed. Ng then stabbed Ang in the stomach, blocked Ang from pressing the distress button meant for elderly residents, ignored Ang’s pleas for help, and slashed his neck, leaving the floor covered in blood.
After the killing, Ng disabled help and surrendered
After Ang was confirmed dead, Ng took about S$3,000, washed his hands, and disabled Ang’s phone by throwing it into a fish tank. He then left the flat to pray at a temple along Bencoolen Street, spent the money on beer, expensive food and tips for Vietnamese entertainers in Geylang, checked into a hotel, and surrendered to police on March 17, saying he had killed his housemate.
