Higher market prices lifted sales of petrol, diesel and lubricants, along with liquefied petroleum gas. That price effect was identified as a key support for the stronger performance.
Food, beverages and tobacco also added to the growth
The wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco grew 5%. The increase was supported by higher sales of rice, other grains, flour and sugar, dairy products, fish and other seafood.

These categories helped widen the growth base beyond fuel-related trade. The gains show that demand was not limited to one segment of the sub-sector.
Household goods and agricultural raw materials rose as well
The wholesale of household goods expanded 3.5% to RM15.2 billion. Growth came from pharmaceutical and medical goods, jewellery and clothing.

The wholesale of agricultural raw materials and live animals rose 7.3% to RM6.7 billion, mainly because of stronger demand for palm oil. Together, these segments added further momentum to the overall wholesale trade increase.
