The Deception During the Viewing

The incident involved two men who were viewing a 4.95-carat diamond at approximately 3:40pm. During the viewing process, one suspect presented a counterfeit diamond before discreetly switching it with the genuine stone. This sleight-of-hand manoeuvre allowed the real diamond to be transferred.
Concealment and Departure

Immediately after the swap, the accomplice concealed the genuine diamond within his mouth. Both individuals then calmly exited the jewellery store, giving no indication of their illicit actions. Store staff later became suspicious and discovered the substitution of the real diamond with a fake.
Recovery and Arrest

The Singapore Police Force apprehended the suspects at Changi Airport Terminal 3 within three hours of the theft. The stolen diamond was subsequently recovered from a haversack belonging to one of the suspects and seized as evidence. One of the accused, Mangroliya Manojkumar Kurjibhai, pleaded guilty and received a sentence of two years, two months, and two weeks in jail. His accomplice, Serasiya Milan Ramnikbhai, is awaiting a separate trial.
