The terminal building area at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) has undergone a substantial expansion, increasing from 12,000 square metres to 36,000 square metres. This expansion is part of a broader upgrade project that has introduced more comprehensive facilities aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and improving flight operations. The enhanced infrastructure is designed to cater to a significantly larger passenger volume, reflecting the airport's growing importance.
Increased Passenger Capacity and Aircraft Parking

Following the expansion, LTSIP is now projected to handle up to four million passengers annually, a considerable increase from its previous capacity of 1.5 million. Complementing this passenger growth, the airport's aircraft parking capacity has also been bolstered, with the number of bays rising from five to eleven. This expansion in both passenger and aircraft handling capabilities signifies a major step forward in the airport's operational capacity.
Enhanced Passenger Flow and Facilities

The operational layout of the new terminal has been reconfigured for improved efficiency. The departure hall now functions on the upper level, utilising aerobridges for passenger boarding, while the arrival area is situated on the lower level. Furthermore, the airport now offers up to 1,300 multi-storey parking bays, a substantial rise from the previous 350 bays, with plans in place for long-term parking options at reasonable rates.
Modernised Amenities and Aesthetic Improvements

The upgraded LTSIP now boasts a range of modern amenities, including over 20 airline counters, dedicated lanes for taxi drivers, and a terminal fire and rescue station. A cashless operating system has been implemented to streamline passenger movement. The interior design of the new areas thoughtfully integrates traditional Kelantan architectural elements with Islamic motifs, creating a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing environment for travellers. The entire expansion and upgrading project represented an investment of RM440 million.
