The Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is intensifying its efforts to curb the smuggling of controlled and subsidised goods by increasing patrols and controls at approximately 30 identified illegal bases along Sungai Golok near Pengkalan Kubor. These locations have been identified as key routes for the illicit transfer of these items to neighbouring Thailand. Since the beginning of the year, KPDN has taken action on 26 cases under the Supply Control Act 1960, resulting in the seizure of various items including sugar, cooking oil, wheat flour, petrol, and diesel, along with vehicles valued at RM144,077.
Increased Surveillance at Identified Smuggling Hotspots

KPDN has pinpointed numerous illegal bases, including stores and sheds situated along the Sungai Golok riverbank, some of which are located adjacent to residential properties. These facilities are believed to be used for the temporary storage of controlled goods before they are smuggled across the border. The ministry is actively conducting enhanced surveillance and patrols at these specific points to disrupt the smuggling networks.
Coordinated Patrols Near Border Areas

In addition to focusing on the riverine bases, KPDN has implemented Monitoring Enforcement Patrols specifically aimed at preventing the misappropriation of subsidised goods. These patrols are strategically conducted at petrol stations located within a 50-kilometre radius of the national borders. This initiative is carried out in close collaboration with other relevant border control agencies to ensure comprehensive coverage and effectiveness.
Warning Issued to Smugglers and Operators

The ministry has issued a stern warning to all individuals engaged in the illicit activities of misappropriating subsidised controlled goods, urging them to cease their operations immediately. KPDN has affirmed its commitment to taking decisive action against any party found to be involved, including petrol station operators who are obligated to adhere to all prescribed laws and regulations. Non-compliance or involvement in petrol misappropriation will result in severe consequences.
