This incident, which resulted in casualties on both sides, including one Malaysian officer and seven personnel, alongside one TNI member, was acknowledged as a significant event in military history. Attendees also observed a moment of silence to honour fallen heroes, followed by a patriotic poem recitation.
Launch of the Kembara Merdeka Convoy

Following the Warriors' Day observances, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, officially launched the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign for Sabah. This marked the commencement of the 2022 Kembara Merdeka convoy, comprising 15 vehicles and over 50 participants. These participants represent various government departments and agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysia Civil Defence Department, the Information Department, RTM, Bernama, Pos Malaysia, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and the Sabah Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
Convoy's Itinerary and Objectives

The Kembara Merdeka convoy is scheduled to embark on an 11-day tour across Sabah, commencing on August 9. The convoy will visit nine different locations throughout the state. The primary objective of this extensive tour is to cultivate and strengthen patriotism among the populace, thereby enlivening the spirit of the National Month and the upcoming National Day celebrations on August 31.
