In contrast, a smaller but notable segment of SMEs, representing 17 per cent of the total respondents, believe they can recover within three months. The majority of these businesses are situated within the food and beverage sector. This faster recovery projection for F&B businesses is attributed to the specific initiatives under the Penjana plan, with 24 out of 40 short-term initiatives valued at RM14.5 billion identified as potentially boosting their activities.
Tourism Sector Faces Extended Recovery Timeline

For small and medium enterprises operating in the tourism and related sectors, which have been among the hardest hit, the projected recovery period is longer, extending beyond a year. This indicates a more challenging path to normalcy for industries heavily reliant on travel and public gatherings, necessitating sustained support and adaptation strategies.

The Penjana plan encompasses a range of measures designed to alleviate the economic pressures faced by SMEs.
