First Phase of People's Project Completed

The installation of underground gas pipelines for 15 families in QTC Permyjaya represents the initial stage of a broader project aimed at providing direct kitchen gas connections. This undertaking, which commenced with an official launch by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg on October 30 last year, is designed to offer a more efficient and potentially cost-effective gas supply solution for low-cost housing areas. State Transport Minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin observed the project's progress, noting its adherence to the planned schedule.
Subsequent Phases Underway

Following the successful completion of the first phase, further stages of the People's Project are actively progressing. The second phase is set to benefit an additional 125 households, with preparations underway for gas supply and owners being advised to switch to stoves compatible with underground natural gas pressure. For the third phase, 251 units have had their applications approved and are awaiting pipeline installation, also contingent on stove suitability.
Future Expansion and Application Process

The project continues to expand, with 682 units having applied for the fourth phase, and site surveys already completed for 91 of these. Installation works are scheduled to resume and are anticipated to be completed in stages throughout the current year. Residents in other areas of Miri interested in this initiative can submit applications at the Sarawak Gas office. Homeowners like Catherine Dabu have expressed satisfaction with the free installation, anticipating reduced gas bills, while Kong Chong Kiaw highlighted the convenience and cost savings compared to traditional gas cylinders.
