Immigration and IT Officials Apprehended
Four officers from the Immigration Department and two officials from its Information Technology Division were among those arrested. These individuals, all between their 30s and 40s, were apprehended at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters and the Immigration Department office in Penang. Their involvement points to a deep-seated exploitation of the MyIMMs system.
Policeman and Corporate Figures Detained
A policeman was also arrested as part of the crackdown. In addition to government insiders, the operation apprehended two company directors and three foreigners. The syndicate’s modus operandi involved targeting unused Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS) quotas dating back to 2011 to issue work passes.
Scale of Fraudulent Passes Issued
The investigation revealed that 1,306 fraudulent PLKS were issued through this systemic breach. This exploitation of the system resulted in an estimated loss of RM2.4 million to the government, as the required levies were bypassed. The operation, which began with intelligence sharing between MACC and the Immigration Department in May, also received technical support from CyberSecurity Malaysia and Telekom Malaysia.
