Rainfall intensity reached 92.5 millimetres per hour at the Ulu Kinta Dam, and the cumulative rainfall in the Kinta area for November exceeded the long-term average, recording 370.2 mm against an average of 298.5 mm. This sustained downpour caused the Kinta River's water levels to rise sharply, ultimately leading to its overflow into nearby residential areas.
Floods Described as Worst in Three Decades

Residents and emergency responders described the flood event as the most severe experienced in the past 30 years. During the event, rescue teams had to navigate through waters contaminated with garbage and oil to assist stranded victims. The intensity of the rainfall, exceeding 60mm per hour which is classified as very heavy by the Irrigation and Drainage Department, contributed to the severity of the inundation.
Long-Term Mitigation Measures Considered

In response to the incident and acknowledging the risks posed by increasingly serious climate change, the government is evaluating a proposal to upgrade the river embankment along the Kinta River.
