Phase 1 Scope and Investment

The first phase of the solar PV installation project will encompass 396 IWK sewage treatment plant sites. To facilitate this, IWK has entered into renewable energy power purchase agreements (REPPA) with four distinct companies. These companies are collectively committing a total capital expenditure (CAPEX) of RM84 million for the deployment of solar technology across these selected locations.
Projected Energy Generation and Savings

Upon completion of Phase 1, the solar installations are anticipated to generate approximately 22,781 Megawatt-hours (MWh) of solar energy annually. This increased reliance on solar power is expected to translate into a significant reduction in electricity costs, with an estimated annual saving of RM1.9 million anticipated by the year 2026.
Future Phases and Environmental Impact

Beyond the initial rollout, IWK is actively conducting detailed assessments for a potential Phase 2, which could involve an additional 583 sites. This subsequent phase has the potential to yield another 21,500 MWh of solar energy each year, contributing an estimated RM1.8 million in additional annual savings by 2027. Cumulatively, following the completion of both phases, IWK projects a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, estimating a decrease of 34.4 kilotons of carbon dioxide equivalent (ktCO2e) by 2027. This effort aligns with the national policy outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
