More than 1,000 students from Johor are currently pursuing their higher education in Egypt and Jordan. These students are being monitored to ensure they are not involved in any activities related to the Daesh militant group.

Special officers are assigned to continuously observe the activities of Johor students studying in Egypt and Jordan. This oversight is in place for all students, particularly those sponsored by the Johor State Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ). The council has stated that no sponsored students have been found to be involved with the Islamic State (IS) or Daesh in these countries.
Sponsorship and Aid for Students
For the 2016/2017 academic session, 70 students received financial assistance from MAINJ. This aid included flight sponsorships, amounting to RM278,600, and a consolation sum of RM1,000 for each student. These students were scheduled to depart for Egypt and Jordan to undertake studies in fields such as Syariah, Usuluddin, Arab language, and Ulum Islamiah.
Consequences for Involvement in Extremist Activities
The Johor State Islamic Religious Council has indicated that legal action and the termination of sponsorship will be pursued against any student found to be involved in Daesh activities. This measure underscores the commitment to ensuring that students abroad remain focused on their education and do not engage in extremist ideologies.
