Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, and Federal Territories

The observation network extends to East Malaysia and federal territories. Sarawak has designated Esplanade Luak in Miri, and Teluk Bandung and Tanjung Batu in Kuching. Sabah's observation point is Balai Cerap Al-Biruni in Putatan. Additionally, Tingkat 13, Menara Universiti Malaysia Sabah in Labuan, Menara Kuala Lumpur, and Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa Putrajaya are also included. Kuala Sungai Baru in Simpang Empat, Perlis, completes the list of 29 locations.
Official Announcement Procedure

Following the observations on the evening of May 5, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal is responsible for officially declaring the confirmed date for the commencement of Ramadan. This announcement is traditionally made on the same night via radio and television broadcasts. The Council of Rulers has affirmed that the method for determining the start of the fasting month is a combination of visual new moon sighting ("rukyah") and astronomical calculation ("hisab").
