18 MPs Were Absent During the Finance Ministry Vote

A total of 18 Members of Parliament (MPs) were not in attendance during the bloc vote for the Finance Ministry's RM21 billion allocation under Budget 2021. The allocation was ultimately passed with 107 MPs voting in favour and 95 against.
Bloc Vote Called After Voice Vote Uncertainty

The division vote, commonly known as a bloc vote, was initiated because the outcome of the preceding voice vote was not clearly discernible. A significant number of Opposition MPs stood up to request a division vote, leading Deputy Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon to agree to the procedure.
Speaker Oversees Voting Process

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun resumed his position to oversee the voting process. This allowed Deputy Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon, who is also the Batu Pahat MP, to participate in the vote. The Speaker also clarified that once voting commences, no lawmakers are permitted to enter the parliamentary chamber.
Finance Ministry Allocation Passed

Following the bloc vote, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker announced the results: 107 votes in favour, 95 against, and 18 MPs not in attendance. This outcome confirmed the passage of the RM21 billion allocation for the Ministry of Finance as part of Budget 2021. This was the second instance of a bloc vote for a ministry's expenditure that day, with the Prime Minister's Department also passing its allocation earlier.
