Long-haul markets also registered negative growth, with a decline of 22.5 per cent in tourist numbers.
Dominance of Asean Market Despite Decline

Despite the overall downturn, Asean countries continued to be Malaysia's largest source of tourist arrivals, accounting for 67.8 per cent of the total, or 2.87 million tourists. However, this still represents a significant decrease of 37.3 per cent compared to the 4.58 million Asean tourists who visited in the first quarter of 2019. The medium-haul market, including East and South Asia, contributed 20.3 per cent, while the long-haul market comprised 505,307 visitors, marking a 22.5 per cent decrease.
