Within retail, sales in non-specialised stores saw a notable rise of 36.3 per cent, reaching RM20.7 billion. Other segments also performed strongly, including retail sales in specialised stores (+30.8 per cent) and retail sales of automotive fuels (+54.6 per cent).
Wholesale Trade and Motor Vehicle Sales Also Increased

The wholesale trade segment also demonstrated positive momentum, expanding by 11.7 per cent y-o-y to RM59.6 billion. The wholesale of household goods was a key driver within this sector, growing by 22.1 per cent to RM11.9 billion. Furthermore, sales of motor vehicles saw a significant surge of 20.1 per cent y-o-y, amounting to RM13.9 billion.
Impact of Easing Restrictions on Trade Performance

The overall increase in wholesale and retail trade, amounting to RM21.5 billion, is largely attributed to the easing of movement restrictions. This facilitated the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, leading to increased consumer spending and economic activity across these sectors. On a month-on-month basis, sales value for wholesale and retail trade also saw a 1.4 per cent increase from April 2022.
