Most Singaporean Married Couples Report High Levels of Satisfaction with Their Relationships

A recent survey indicates that the vast majority of married individuals in Singapore are content with their marital relationships, with a significant portion rarely contemplating divorce. Data from a Ministry of Social and Family Development survey of 3,000 respondents revealed that nearly 95 per cent of married people expressed happiness with their relationship. Furthermore, approximately 88 per cent of these respondents indicated that they seldom or never considered ending their marriage.
Overwhelming Majority Report Positive Relationship Status

The survey results underscore a high degree of marital contentment, with around 93 per cent of married individuals reporting that their relationship was progressing well. In contrast, only a small fraction, specifically 3.7 per cent, described their marital happiness as "a little unhappy." While the number of marriages in Singapore has seen a decrease, with 24,688 recorded in 2025, representing a 6.2 per cent drop from the previous year and the lowest figure in nearly a decade (excluding 2020), the available data suggests that those who do marry tend to have strong commitments. Divorce Rates Also Show a Downward Trend

Coinciding with the lower marriage rates, the number of divorces and annulments also decreased in 2025, falling by 1.9 per cent to 7,242 from 7,382 in the preceding year. This indicates a broader trend of fewer marital dissolutions, suggesting a more stable marital landscape among those who choose to marry.
