Anwar emphasized Malaysia's traditional strong stance against drug offences, noting that while laws regarding mandatory death sentences have been amended, the nation's position on drug crimes remains firm. He clarified that any representations made by Malaysia regarding citizens facing legal proceedings abroad, including in Singapore, are merely to convey family concerns and should not be interpreted as condoning drug offences.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation Frameworks

Malaysia and Singapore have pledged to enhance their bilateral cooperation, particularly within the existing structures dedicated to combating cross-border drug trafficking and related criminal networks. A significant development in this regard was the witnessing of several MoU exchanges by the leaders. Among these was the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, Their Analogues, and Precursor Chemicals, signed between the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore.
