Rapid KL On-Demand Utilises Vans for Enhanced First and Last-Mile Connectivity

The Rapid KL On-Demand service, also known as Demand Responsive Transit (DRT), is set to significantly improve first and last-mile connectivity by deploying vans to transport passengers directly from their residences to Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations. This initiative aims to streamline commuting, reduce costs, and thereby incentivise greater utilisation of public transportation networks.
Service Expansion and Fleet Growth

The DRT system is currently active across 37 operational zones, supported by a fleet of 110 vans. A substantial expansion is underway, with plans to increase the van fleet to 320 vehicles by June of the current year. The ultimate objective is to extend the service's reach to encompass 91 zones throughout the Klang Valley, establishing a comprehensive network to serve a broader population.
Passenger Capacity and Journey Efficiency

Presently, approximately 4,000 passengers utilise the on-demand facilities on a daily basis. With the planned increase in vehicle numbers, the service aims to accommodate a significantly larger ridership, targeting 36,000 passengers per day. The current average waiting time for passengers from their homes to a station is around 10 minutes, with total journey times ranging from 10 to 20 minutes, and further enhancements are anticipated as the service expands.
Payment System Integration and Fare Structure

A key development in the service is the introduction of payment flexibility. Users can now directly settle fares using debit or credit cards, with a comprehensive open payment system slated for full operational status by May. This is complemented by a promotional fare of RM1 for trips within a 5km radius. Furthermore, holders of the My50 pass and passengers with disabilities are currently eligible for complimentary rides on the service.
