The Bayan Lepas LRT Alignment Is Not Yet Finalised

The alignment for the proposed Bayan Lepas Light Rail Transit (BL LRT) has not been finalised and is currently awaiting approval from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD). Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow clarified that APAD is still reviewing the application, and the alignment will only be confirmed upon APAD's issuance of a conditional approval. Preliminary studies for the LRT alignment, including site visits to Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong Besar, have been conducted. The state government has committed to respecting Islamic law guidelines and will consult with the Penang Fatwa Committee before any definitive decisions are made regarding the LRT alignment in the vicinity of the mosque. The Penang Fatwa Committee has examined the issue from an Islamic law perspective, taking into account the safety of mosque congregants and the sanctity of the mosque and Muslim cemetery.
