Suspected Cause of Explosion

The incident is suspected to have originated from a hydrogen gas leak from a filter vessel, which accumulated within the shelter at the PS1 A1 Section of the plant. This leak is believed to be the cause of the explosion.
Extent of Damage

The area affected by the incident spanned 35 square metres, with the blast radius causing damage to a four square metre section. Specifically, the damage was confined to the shelter panel wall, with no explosions involving piping or vessels reported.
Plant Operations and Fire Department Response

Plant operators managed the situation by isolating and shutting down operations from Centre Control Room One to halt activities during the incident. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) did not conduct any firefighting operations, instead focusing on monitoring and gathering information. The Bomba Fire Investigation Division is continuing its investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. This incident follows previous events in the area, including a fire at OCIM's reactor tank in August last year which caused fatalities and injuries, a smelter fire at Press Metal in September, and an explosion at an OM Materials furnace workshop in November, none of which resulted in injuries.
