Tajuddin Abdul Rahman's Departure from Parliament: Voluntary or Ordered?

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun upheld his deputy's ruling concerning Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman's remarks, while also acknowledging a miscommunication. Azhar stated that he was unaware of his deputy's decision to expel Tajuddin from Parliament on July 20. He indicated that Tajuddin should not have been present for a subsequent vote, and in light of the events, used Standing Order 100 to amend the vote results.
Deputy Speaker's Ruling and Speaker's Acknowledgment

On July 20, Deputy Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon reportedly warned Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman over misogynist remarks made concerning DAP women. Following this, Rashid's ruling was that Tajuddin was automatically suspended for two days, inclusive of the day of the incident, after being ordered out of the House. Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun later acknowledged a miscommunication with his deputy regarding the expulsion and stated he was not informed of the decision to expel Tajuddin for two days. Azhar noted that if he had been aware of the expulsion, he would not have permitted Tajuddin to participate in the vote to revoke the enforcement of sub-section 4(5) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Tajuddin's Account of His Departure

Tajuddin himself addressed the House, asserting that he was not ordered to leave by the deputy Speaker and that his departure was voluntary. He explained that he chose to walk out to avoid causing a disturbance and because he had other matters to attend to. Tajuddin further stated that he did not protest the deputy Speaker's subsequent declaration that he had ordered him to leave, as he considered it a waste of time to argue the matter. He maintained that his vote on the day should therefore be counted.
Opposition Concerns and Evidence Presented

The situation drew criticism from the Opposition. Hannah Yeoh (PH-Segambut) stated that none of the Members of Parliament present heard the deputy Speaker ordering Tajuddin out, and suggested that the order might have been fabricated. Teo Nie Ching (PH-Kulai) presented the Hansard from the day in question, which she claimed showed Tajuddin was present in the Dewan Rakyat after being ejected during the morning session, thereby disputing the deputy Speaker's ruling on an automatic two-day suspension. Speaker Azhar, while admitting the situation was a "madhouse," stated he had reviewed a replay of the incident and did not blame Tajuddin if he did not hear the order.
