Reporters Without Borders Advocates for International Pressure

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has also called for decisive action, emphasising the need for the international community to exert pressure on the Chinese regime. RSF East Asia Bureau head, Cedric Alviani, stated that securing Zhang Zhan's immediate release is critical before the situation becomes irreversible. Concerns Raised Over Zhang Zhan's Health and Conditions

Zhang Zhan, a former lawyer, travelled to Wuhan in February 2020 to document the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. She was detained in May 2020 and subsequently sentenced to four years in prison on charges of "picking quarrels and provoking trouble." Her brother, Zhang Ju, has reported that she is severely underweight and "may not live for much longer," highlighting that she is currently unable to walk or lift her head without assistance, according to RSF. Her legal team previously indicated she was being force-fed through nasal tubes.
