Southern Route Launched by Sultan of Malaysia

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, officially launched the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) for the southern route at Kuala Lumpur Station. The ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and other senior government officials. Following the launch, Sultan Ibrahim personally operated an ETS3 train on a journey to Kluang Station in Johor.
Sultan Ibrahim's Experience with Train Operation

Sultan Ibrahim has a documented history with locomotive operation, having previously been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records in 2010 as the first Sultan to hold a Class 26 High-Powered Locomotive Driving Licence. In the same year, he drove a train during the Kembara Mahkota Johor programme and obtained a locomotive driving licence, performing a turntable procedure at Gemas Station. He also recently test-drove KTMB’s ETS2 from Kuala Lumpur to Rawang.
ETS3 Trains Undergoing Technical Testing

Prior to the official launch, both sets of ETS3 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains designated for the southern route to Johor Bahru Sentral were undergoing technical tests. Transport Minister Anthony Loke indicated that these tests were a prerequisite for the commencement of operations, which were anticipated to begin in the same month as the launch.
