The development of a resilient food supply chain is another cornerstone for Asean's economic security. The region, which is highly vulnerable to climate impacts, faces significant economic losses from disasters, with floods alone estimated to cost Asean economies over US$20 billion. Strengthening this chain is crucial to mitigate risks and ensure food security for its populations.
Bolstering Climate Resilience and Sustainable Finance

Strengthening climate resilience is paramount, given that Asean accounts for over 50 per cent of global economic losses from disasters. Addressing climate risks is critical for maintaining supply chain integrity. To support these efforts, there is a significant need to mobilise financing for climate adaptation and decarbonisation, facing an annual funding gap of approximately US$100 billion. The Asean+3 Green Bond market saw a 30 per cent growth in 2023, and the Asean Catalytic Green Finance Facility has mobilised about US$1 billion for climate-supporting infrastructure, indicating progress in this area. Furthermore, a transition to clean energy is necessary, with Asean aiming for a 50 per cent renewable energy share in its capacity by 2040, and the Asean Power Grid project is vital for expanding cross-border energy trade and securing a low-carbon future.
