The MMEA has officially activated a search and rescue (SAR) operation following a report of a fisherman falling overboard. The Kuala Kedah Maritime Zone director, Maritime commander Mahmad Faizal Ahmad, confirmed that the Langkawi Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) team launched the SAR at 9:50 am after being alerted by the boat skipper.

The SAR effort encompasses assets from the Malaysian Maritime, which includes the MMEA, as well as resources from the Fisheries Department. In addition to official agencies, several local fishing boats have also been mobilised to assist in the search.
