Audio Limitations in EdUHK's ePS Before TCC 2 Installation

Prior to the implementation of Sennheiser's TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2), The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) encountered significant audio challenges within its e-learning Pedagogy Space (ePS). The existing setup was constrained by the availability of only a single microphone at any given time. This limitation necessitated either speakers raising their voices considerably or the physical passing of the microphone between participants, thereby disrupting the flow of presentations and discussions.

The previous audio configuration was also susceptible to delays and technical issues. These problems frequently hampered natural conversation between instructors and students, and between students themselves, whether they were physically present or participating remotely. Such technical shortcomings could lead to disengagement from both groups, diminishing the overall effectiveness of the hybrid learning environment.

A specific difficulty arose when instructors moved around the ePS. Previously, students joining the session online struggled to hear the lecturer clearly as they changed position. Conversely, if an instructor dedicated too much attention to engaging with remote participants, the level of interaction and engagement among the students physically present in the classroom would suffer, creating an imbalance in the learning experience.
