H’ng further clarified that the ban was enacted without the state executive council's awareness and was considered to be without foundation. Henceforth, any future decisions by the council to ban alcohol sales will require prior approval from the state executive council.
Reversal of Initial Order

The initial order had prohibited businesses along the entire Thaipusam procession route from selling alcohol from January 24 to January 26. However, this was reversed with immediate effect, with council officers tasked with retracting the ban notices from 51 outlets. The restriction will now only apply to five specific businesses near the Waterfall temple for the three-day period around Thaipusam, a restriction that has been in place for many years on police advice.
