Addressing Market Shortages

The implementation of this programme is a direct response to observed shortages of local white rice in the market. Findings from Ops Jamin revealed instances where traders were purchasing large quantities, between 600kg and 700kg, at a single time. To counter this, a restriction has been put in place, limiting individual purchases to 10 bags of 10kg rice per person annually, totalling 100kg.
Assured Stock and Stable Pricing

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has assured the public that current stocks of local white rice are sufficient. The retail price for a 10kg bag of local white rice remains controlled at RM26, equating to RM2.60 per kilogram. This measure aims to maintain affordability and prevent price fluctuations during the period of adjustment and increased production.
Combating Profiteering

Concerns have been raised regarding allegations of profiteering, where some suppliers may be relabelling locally produced rice as imported stock to gain undue profit. While these manipulations are suspected by the ministry, no official complaints have been lodged to date. The ministry attributes these actions to a few irresponsible parties exploiting the situation for easy profit.
