Financial Support Available for Children Orphaned by Covid-19

Financial assistance has been provided to eight siblings who lost both parents to Covid-19, with further measures being implemented to support children in similar situations. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has requested the Health Ministry to compile a list of children who have lost one or both parents to the virus to facilitate the extension of aid. This initiative aims to address the financial hardships faced by these vulnerable children.
Financial Aid Provided to Eight Siblings

The eight siblings, aged between four and 19, have received a multi-faceted support package following the deaths of their parents within a three-day period. The Selangor Zakat Board is covering the monthly rental of RM650 in full, in addition to providing food assistance and a one-off payment of RM650. The Welfare Department (JKM) is contributing RM950 per month to the siblings. Furthermore, the National Disaster Management Agency has disbursed a one-off Special Aid for Covid-19 Death Management amounting to RM5,000.
Corporate Sponsorship and Educational Support

Beyond immediate financial relief, the Defence Ministry has arranged for its subsidiary, Boustead Holdings Berhad, to act as foster parents to the eight siblings. Boustead has also extended a job offer to the eldest child, who is 18 years old and already employed in a factory. The Higher Education Ministry has provided RM500 to each of the eight siblings through the Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN-i) savings scheme, ensuring a contribution towards their future education.
Assistance for Higher Education Students

Specific support has also been extended to Nazurah Nabilah Benyajeed, the eldest daughter and a student pursuing a Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. She has been offered a transfer from Politeknik Mersing in Johor to Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah in Perak. This transfer aims to bring her closer to home, enabling her to better manage her responsibilities towards her younger siblings while continuing her studies.
