The Ministry of Education has granted students staying at schools converted into temporary relief centres (PPS) the flexibility to attend classes without wearing uniforms. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the arrangement is meant to help ensure students can still attend school even when they do not have their school attire with them, and to avoid burdening their parents.
Uniforms are optional for students at PPS
MOE’s flexibility applies to students affected by the floods who are staying at PPS locations. The minister said many of them do not have their school uniforms with them, so they are allowed to attend classes without wearing uniforms.
The same leeway applies beyond flood-affected students
The uniform-free attendance flexibility is not limited to students directly affected by the floods. It also covers students who were unable to wear their uniforms because persistent heavy rain prevented their clothes from drying.
Heavy rain shut some schools and expanded PPS use
Continuous heavy rain over the past few days led to the closure of seven schools in Johor on Friday, with three each in Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi, and one in Pasir Gudang. During the same period, 47 schools in Johor were converted into relief centres (PPS).
