The acting Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, Armizan Mohd Ali, reported that the highest price of RM11 per kg was noted at Pasar Basah Rompin in Pahang and Pasar Basah Manir in Terengganu. Conversely, Mari-Mari Supermarket in Mersing, Johor, was selling chicken at the lowest recorded price of RM6.49 per kg. These figures emerged from inspections conducted on 1,484 premises across Peninsular Malaysia.
Premises Selling Above Previous Control Price

Out of the total premises inspected, only 68, representing 4.6 per cent, were found to be selling chicken at a price exceeding the previous controlled rate of RM9.40 per kg. Rationale for Subsidy Termination

The primary rationale behind this move is to reduce subsidy leakage, which was reportedly being enjoyed by both foreigners and high-income groups. Subsidies and price controls for grade A, B, and C eggs, however, will continue under the existing mechanism.

Consumers have been urged not to engage in panic buying, as the supply of chicken is guaranteed to be sufficient. The government has indicated that actions can be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and the Competition Act 2010 if chicken prices are deemed unreasonable.
