Half of Actual Capacity Approved for Friday Prayers in Federal Territories Mosques

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) has approved an increase in the congregation capacity for Friday prayers and general mass prayers to half of the actual capacity of mosques, main prayer halls, and suraus. This revised capacity will be effective from February 5, maintaining a physical distancing requirement of 1.5 metres. The expansion applies to all Federal Territories, including Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, and is implemented in line with strict standard operating procedures advised by the Health Ministry and the National Security Council (MKN).
Revised Capacity Effective February 5

Effective tomorrow, February 5, mosques, main prayer halls, and suraus in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan can accommodate congregants at 50 per cent of their actual capacity for Friday prayers and other general mass prayers. This adjustment follows the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, signifying a move to allow for greater participation while adhering to health guidelines.
Physical Distancing and Religious Talks

A mandatory physical distancing of 1.5 metres must be observed by all attendees during prayers. In addition to the prayer services, religious talks preceding Friday prayers are now permitted. These talks can be conducted for a duration of 30 minutes, provided that the 1.5-metre physical distancing rule is strictly maintained within the mosque and surau premises.
Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures

The implementation of this expanded capacity is contingent upon the strict adherence to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) as advised by the Health Ministry and the National Security Council (MKN). These guidelines are crucial for ensuring the safety of congregants and mitigating the ongoing risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, as emphasized by Jawi director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail.
