The body of a woman, who was reported missing after her car was swept away by flood currents in Mersing, was found inside her vehicle. The 24-year-old victim is the fifth casualty of the recent floods in Johor.
Vehicle Submerged in Flood Waters
The victim was driving a Perodua Myvi from Mersing to Kluang when her vehicle veered off Jalan Nitar Utama and was submerged in water. The incident occurred at approximately 6.45am yesterday, with the water level along the road estimated to be about one metre deep at the time.
Rescue Operation Details
The search-and-rescue team located the Perodua Myvi about 15 metres from its last reported position. The operation to retrieve the submerged vehicle commenced at 6.55pm and involved the department’s water rescue team. A vehicle recovery system was used to successfully lift the car from the floodwaters.
Depth of the Slope
Assistant Fire Superintendent Abdul Muiz Mukhtar estimated the depth of the slope from the area where the vehicle plunged into the water to be approximately six metres. The victim's remains were recovered from the vehicle and handed over to the police for further proceedings.
Police Classification of the Case
Mersing police chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed that the body had been sent to the Mersing Hospital's forensic unit for a post-mortem examination and identification. The case has been classified as a sudden death report.
