The Perlis state government’s total debts increased to RM403.32 million last year, up from RM392.33 million in 2017. Auditor-General Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid said this represents a 2.8 per cent increase, equivalent to RM10.99 million.
Total debts rose to RM403.32 million
The Auditor-General reported that the Perlis state government’s debts stood at RM403.32 million last year. This was an increase of RM10.99 million from RM392.33 million in 2017, based on the 2018 Auditor-General’s Report.
Outstanding debts also increased year-on-year
In addition to the overall debt figure, the audit found that the state government’s outstanding debts rose to RM244.28 million. This compares with RM229.88 million in 2017, showing an increase over the previous year.
Consolidated Fund balance fell by RM13.78 million
The audit also recorded that the balance of the Consolidated Fund at the end of 2018 was RM22.20 million. This was down by RM13.78 million, or 38.3 per cent, from RM35.98 million at the end of 2017.
Revenue collection rose, but revenue account showed a deficit
For the financial year ending 2018, Perlis government revenue collection increased by RM19.42 million, or 17.9 per cent, to RM128.08 million from RM108.66 million in 2017. Despite this rise in collection, the account for revenue recorded a current deficit of RM15.41 million in 2018.
